STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE WEAKER TONE EVIDENT A smaller amount of business was iflone on tlie Auckland Stock Exchango yesterday and New Zealand issues showed a' weaker tendency. 1 Government loans again experienced a quiet demand, but some interest was shown in local body debentures. Banks were again in demand, but levels were irregular. New Zealands failed to hold recent improved rates, dropping 6d to 49s 3d. A later sale brought the price up to 49s 6d. There was a slight revival in Nationals of jCew Zealand, which were done higher. There was a sale of Reserve Banks which showed no alteration. New Zealand Insurance shares were placed at 63s 9d, compared with a cum dividend transfer on Thursday at 6ls 6d. Goldshrough Mort maintained current rates, but in a later sale dropped sightly. In the coal section Renowns were lowt>r. Taupo Totara Timbers also were easier. Of main interest in the miscellaneous section was another fall in New Zealand Newspapers, which lost 2s 3d on sale. Holders of flour milling shares were content with late rates, and Northern Rollers were transferred unchanged. Australian Glass were higher, while both Consolidated Brick and Electrolytic Zinc, preference, were lifted.
