BAKER'S DISAPPEARANCE

VAN FOUND ON ROADSIDE MISSING MAN NOT TRACED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] THAMES, Friday No trace has been found of Mr. W. A. Montgomery, aged 51, a baker, of Ngatea, Hauraki Plains, who has been missing since February 3. Mr. Montgomery left on his bread round as usual on that day, and his van was subsequently found abandoned about 100 yards from the bank of the Piako River, which was in flood at the time. It was at first thought that ho might have fallen into the river, but as ten days have now elapsed since his disappearance, and an intensive search has been conducted by local residents, the police, and this morning by an aeroplane from Thames, it is now believed that he may have wandered off somewhere.

Under the supervision of Constable C. Clifford, of Ngatea, the river in the vicinity of the wharf has been carefully dragged, but without result. The current is very strong in that locality, and the body might bo carried a considerable distance. At the time of his disappearance Mr. Montgomery was wearing a brown striped shirt, khaki trousers, black boots and a Panama hat.
