ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
HIGHWAYS IN THE NORTH ENGINEERING SURVEY WORK [by telegraph—owx correspondent] "WHANGAREI, Friday It was reported by the chairman, Mr. J. A. S. Mackay, at a meeting of the Whangarei County Council to-day that the matter of engineering surveys of the Whangarei, Oakleigh and Waipu— Maungaturoto sections of the highways with a view to reconstruction and sealing was discussed with Mr. R. H. P. Ronayne, chairman of the No. 1 District Highways Council. "Mr. Ronayne made it clear that, in his opinion, an engineering survey of the existing road was essential, as it formed the basis for examination and for the determination of the position and extent of the improvements desirable," said Mr. Mackay. "The major deviation deemed necessary and approved by the Main Highways Board will be undertaken on a free basis. The question of finance cannot be reviewed until the final schemes of improvements are completed and approved by the Main Highways Board." The council decided to proceed with the surveys.
