RECORDS GAINED BY EYSTON

Another fine achievement for British motoring was accomplished by Captain G. E. T. Eyston and his relief drivers, A. Denly and FlightLieutenant C. S. Staniland in September at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. Driving Eyston's new car, " Speed of the Wind," in relays, they broke tho world's 24-hour record, and with it seven intermediate records. The speed for the 24 hours averaged 140.552 m.p.h., which was nearly five miles an hour better than the record of 135.477 m.p.h. set up by the American, D. A. Jenkins, in a Duesenberg 6pecial over the same course the previous month. The total distance covered was a little over 3372 miles. Eyston had

previously beaten the records for 10 miles, 50 kilometres, 50 miles, 100 kilometres, 100 miles, 200 kilometres, and one hour. All but two of the records which Jenkins took from J. Cobb, less than three weeks before, were broken, and also all Cobb's records except the 1000 kilometres, 1000 miles and the three and six hours. The run was made almost without tyre trouble. One tyre went just after 400 miles, but after that they were changed according to schedule. Tho engine functioned perfectly and needed nothing more than the usuallroutine attention. It is likely that Ey6ton will return to Bonneville Salt* Flats later with the same machine. The American Automobile Association issued the following official figures for the new records:-
