VICTORIA AVENUE CARS

Sir, —I live in Victoria Avenue, Remuera, where there is frequent meddling with the tram service, and tho following might have happened on Tuesday last. 1 wished to pay my substantial amount of rates at the Town Hall. Through just missing a tram I had to wait in heavy rain for nearly half an hour, until the next was due. Owing to a recent innovation the avenue trams do not now run beyond Remuera Post Office, and I liad to very carefully negotiate two streams of traffic in the rain to reach the footpath, where 1 awaited a tram bound for the city. This tram took me to the Town Hall all right, but I had to pay an extra penny, as compared with former conditions, in order to get to my destination. Why this penalty upon the poor patrons of the Victoria AvenueCity ears? Returning homo I tried another scheme. I came to Newmarket by means of a crowded Onehunga tram, waited there some minutes for a tram bound for Remuera, and had the displeasure of standing in the car until we reached the post office. Here I had the necessity of again crossing through traffic and rain to board the avenue tram. I found that the trip in was quicker than tho trip home, but the journey cost me one shilling, whereas the old rate was tenpence. I sigh sometimes for the old horse and buggy when going into the city. Cinderella.
