UNSETTLED WITH RAIN SOUTHERLY CHANGE LATER The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A deep westerly depression is crossing the Dominion. Pressure is rising over south-eastern Australia. The forecast is for winds between north and west at first and strong to gale force, changing to southerlies "shortly in the south, southerlies becoming geaeral after about 24 to 30 hours. ,seas i n New Zealand waters rough to high in Cook and Foveaux Strait areas, rough on the west coast, elsewhere moderate to rather rough, but rising later on the. east coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds to gales and rough seas. The weather is likely to be unsettled with rain at times in most districts and some heavy falls on the west. Temperatures warm at first, but a cool change advancing later from the south. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST COOLER TEMPERATURES The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong northwesterly to westerly winds, backing later to the south-west. The weather is likely to be unsettled with intermittent rain. Temperatures warm at first, but cooler to-morrow. Seas rough on the west coast, moderate to rather rough on the east. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—Changeable weather prevailed yesterday. There were several light showers during the morning, but bright sunshine and clear skies were experienced in the afternoon. Conditions were warm, the temperature at 4 p.m. being 74 degrees. There was a moderate north-westerly wind. The barometer was erratic during the day but commenced to rise late last night/ Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.6Jiin. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 29.7ijin. Wellington.—A gusty northerly gale prevailed. It was strongest in the morning, when the gusts reached 56 miles an hour at the Kelburn Observatory. Later the wind abated a little. Except for a period between 11.30 a.m. and 3.15 p.m. the weather was overcast and intermittent rain fell. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 58deg. and the maximum yesterdav 68deg. Christchurch.—A boisterous northwesterly. wind blew in Christchurch yesterday. It was very strong at times and the warmth was oppressive.. The maximum temperature during the day was 79deg. The barometer at 5 o'clock "registered 29.30 in. Dunedin.—Warm weather with a maximum temperature of 77deg. and a light westerly breeze prevailed vesterdav. Following light showers, the day was bright and sunny for the most part. The barometer fell during the day reaching the low level of 28.99 in. at noon, and then began to rise.
