Fiji, which required 235 runs to win, made a good recovery, and at the luncheon interval had scored 155 runs for three wickets (Semi 65, Cakobau 47 not out, Villiami 18 not out). RETURN BY NIAGARA WELCOME TO PLAYERS AUCKLAND ARRANGEMENTS A welcome is to be extended in Auckland to the members of the Maoriland cricket team, who will return from Fiji by the Niagara on Monday morning. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce is associating itself with the cricket authorities of Auckland in extending the welcome, as it is felt that these overseas visits of sporting teams are largely in the nature of goodwill missions which must react favourably upon the trade relations between the countries Involved. The team was well received in Fiji, and from a cricketing point of view acquitted itself well. The welcome is to be given at the Chamber of Commerce at 10.30 on the morning of the team's arrival, GAME IN INDIA FRANK TARRANT'S TEAM MATCH WITH PATIALA CALCUTTA, Jan. 15 In a cricket match between Mr. Frank Tarrant's Australian team and | Patiala. The weather is ideal and the wicket the truest in India. Patiala in the first innings made 301 ■ for five wickets (Wazir Ali 132). Wazir Ali, who made 76 .and 92 in the recent test match, gave a flawless ! display, in the course of which he hit 22 boundaries. TROUBLE REVIVED HINDUS AND MOSLEMS DISSENSION AMONG PLAYERS CALCUTTA, Jan. 15 Trouble which started in a cricket test match in 1932 is threatening to ruin the Indian cricket team's visit to England this summer. When - Nayudn was made captain for the 1932' test match several players refused to play under him. The trouble was tempo- ! rarily smoothed oyer, but it was renewed when India was in a ferment during the visit of Jardine's English team, and now it has broken out afresh. India, for the three unofficial test matches against Mr. Tarrant's Aus- | tralian team, has had three captains, j Amar Singh, who, with Nissar, is ; India's best bowler, has not played in j any match, and C. K. Nayudu did not j play in the third match, when Wazir I Ali was captain. Dissensions between the Hindu and ! Moslem players have arisen because, it ! is said, the captain will not give players ; of the other faith a chance. The Nawab ,; of Pataudi, who was elected captain of i the team to visit England, has not I played in any of the three matches. It I is announced that he is in ill-health, j but he has been practising at the nets for two hours at a time to five bowlers.
