WOMEN'S DIVISION

MATTER OF HOUSEKEEPERS RURAL RESIDENTS' INTERESTS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday The half-yearly conference of the W omen's Division of the New Zealand Fanners' Union was resumed to-day, when consideration was giveu to a further series of remits. It was agreed that a headquarters fund should bo built up in order to strengthen the organisation's scheme for supplying domestic help where required. It was decided to pay housekeepers a bonus after three years' service. Conference urged the executives to take care not to supply housekeepers to those in a position to pay good wages. A Course of Study A tribute was paid to the memory of Mrs. J. G. Cobbe, the first president of tho Feilditig* branch, who recently died. Mrs. Duncan Simpson (Marlon) and Miss K. Fraser (Wanganui) were appointed delegates to the conference of the Associated Country Women of the World to be held in Washington. Brandies were urged to encourage and help members in the study of social and political subjects in a remit that was carried. Mesdames Clark, Mcintosh, Adams, Roebuck and Mitchell were elected a committee to prepare subjects for study. Evening at Lyceum Club The lounge of the Waikato Lyceum Club was bright with lovely zinnias, dahlias, hollyhocks and greenery when delegates, their hostesses and friends were entertained at a social on Wednesday evening. The president of the South Auckland provincial executive, Mrs. F. Ryburn, welcomed the delegates and expressed appreciation to Mrs. Hugh Douglas, president of the Lyceum Club, and her committee for the use of the clubrooms for the funo tion, and the club's offer of hospitality to tho delegates while in Hamilton. A programme of items was appreciatively received by the large gathering present. Songs were contributed by Mrs. C. J. Harris (North Taranaki), Mrs. L. Wells (Pukekawa) and Miss J. Nichol; humorous elocutionary items and sketches by Miss .J. Williams; elocution by Mrs. A. .14. Smith (Wellington) ; a hornpipe dance by Miss D. Sorenson; and a play, "A Distinguished Visitor," by members of the Hamilton branch of the Women's Division. Mrs. Ryburn, on behalf of the Women's Division, presented a bouquet to Mrs. Douglas. Members of the South Auckland provincial executive, Mrs. F. Ryburn, Mrs. >.W. Roebuck, Mrs. J. Cooper (Cambridge), Mrs. Allen Bell, Mrs. R. Thomas, Mrs. J. J. Ryburn, Mrs. W. Godfrey, Miss G. McMiken and Miss D. Lee Martin, were the hostesses.
