METHYLATED SPIRITS

WARNING BY MAGISTRATE "Don't start that methylated spirits business—l know what will happen to you," said Mr. W. It. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, when John Kennedy Thomson, aged 47, and Henry Donnelly, aged 50, were charged with being idle and disorderly persons, in that they had insufficient lawful means of support. Evidence was given by Constable Worts that while on duty in Grey's Avenue he came upon seven men drinking methylated spirits in the entrance to Myers Park. They scattered in different directions, but he followed the accused, who were in a deplorable state, and arrested them. On their undertaking to get work in the country, the magistrate said he would adjourn the charges for a month. On charges of drunkenness, each accused was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment.
