OBITUARY
MR. J. W. ELLISON FORMER CHIEF OF POLICE [BV TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday The death occurred at Wellington today of .Mr. John Wvbrants Ellison, J.P., formerly Superintendent of Polieo in New Zealand. Mr. Ellison, who was aged 85, had suffered from a long illness. From constable to superintendent Mr. Ellison hold all ranks in the police force of New Zealand. Ho was horn in Donegal and came to New Zealand at the age of 18. After lour years' experience in mining and farming, lie joined (lie Armed Constabulary and later transferred to the civil police. He served in Wellington from 1877 and was promoted to sergeant in 1880 and served in that rank at Wellington, Auckland and Wanganui. In 1898 Mr. Kllison was made inspector and ho was the first officer to bo appointed superintendent when that rank was recreated about 1012. He retired from the force in IPIS. Mr. Ellison was a prominent freemason. MR. CHARLES LIMMER The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Limmer, an old settler of Te Kowhai, near Ngaruawahia, aged 88. Mr. Limmer, who was born in Limerick, came to the colony as a youth, and settled at Nelson with his parents, but. later joined tho Armed Constabulary, and was for a time stationed at Piroiigta. Subsequently he transferred to the police force and had I'apakura as his headquarters before lie went farming. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Limmer and famiiy farmed at Te Kowhai. Mr. Limmer is survived by a widow, six daughters and four sons.
