THE MASPORT CUP SIX ENTRIES RECEIVED ) [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION 1 BLENHEIM, Thursday Though entries for the Masport Cup, the New Zealand speedboat championship, do not close till Monday, six have so far been received. It is not believed that there will be any further entries. The list is:—Pelorus Jack (Havelock, defender), M iss Wanganui and Miss Ethel 11. (Wanganui), Tory Chick (Picton), Miss Syndicate (Dunedin), and Eabv Taubman (Wellington). The race takes place on the Picton Harbour 011 Wednesday next. Some of the boats have already arrived and are tuning up. All except Baby Taubman have previously contested the event. Pelorus Jack is the holder of the title, while Tory Chick was the winner in 1934.
WELLINGTON CONTENDER
PROPELLER BLADES STRIPPED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Thursday The now speedboat Baby Taubman, constructed as the Wellington challenger for the Masport Cup, was given a trial in Evans Bay to-day. She attained a speed estimated by onlookers to be about 50 miles an hour, when her 300 horse-power engine proved too powerful for her propeller, which lost all its blades. Unless a new racing pro]>e]lcr can he obtained in time for Baby Taubman to compete, Wellington will not bo represented in the contest on January 22.
