DECREASING WINDS
CHANGE TO NORTHERLIES The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evenin;;; by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —Tuesday's depression .is now passing away eastward, but a fresh though shallow one is advancing across the South Tasman Sea. The forecast is for light to fresh bat decreasing southerly to, south-easterly winds prevailing at first, changing to northerlies soon in ihe far south, and northerlies extending to beyond Cook Strait to-day. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough at first about East Cape, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate southerly winds, gradually tending northerly. Seas slight to moderate. The weather is likely to be fair to fine generally at first, but becoming unsettled later in Westland and the far south, with rain developing. Temperatures will bowarmer. | SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR AND WARMER WEATHER The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southwesterly winds. The weather is likely to be fair to fine, and warmer. Sea* moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine summer weather prevailed in Auckland yesterday. The wind shifted from the north to the south-west early in the morning and the rain ceased. Clear skies and bright sunshine were experienced throughout the day and conditions were warm. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 75deg. The barometer rose steadily throughout the day. Barometer, midnight, rising . . '29.651n. Midnight, Tuesday . . . . 29.25 in, Wellington.—The weather to-day was sunny and warm with a light northerly breeze. Christchurch. —The day was overcast but fine, with a moderate north-north-easterly breeze in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 6l!.3deg. The barometer was steady at 29.65 in. Dunedin. —Although no rain fell, yesterday was very overcast. The maximum temperature was 55 degrees. The glass was rising. The following official report was issued at 4 p.m. yesterday:—
