SHIPPING INCREASE
ARRIVALS AT AUCKLAND MOST FOR FIVE YEARS The generai improvement in trade is reflected in the increase in the amount of shipping which visited Auckland in 1935, the number and total tonnage of vessels being the greatest for five rears. The total number of vessels that arrived last year, according to the official figures of the Auckland Harbour Board, was 6506, of 5;025,507 gross tons, whereas in 1931 the arrivals numbered 5650 vessels, of 4,263,363 gross tons; in 1932, 5137 vessels, of 4,305,572 gross tons; 1933, 5537 vessels, of 4,654,277 gross tons; 1934, SSS9 vessels, of 4,594,771 gross tons.
The largest number of arrivals m any single month was in January, 1935, when a total of 625 vessels visited Auckland. In February there were 517 arrivals, March 576' April 539, May 51S, June 470, July 52r, August 515,. September 476, October 573, November 530, and in December 610.
