SALVATION ARMY

CADETS COMMISSIONED CEREMONY AT WELLINGTON The Vivian Street Citadel, Wellington, was crowded this week for an annual event of considerable interest to .New Zealand Salvationists, tho commissioning of the cadets as officers. The ceremony was conducted by Lieut.Commissioner F. H. Adams. Thirty-two young men and women who for the past ten months have been receiving their training at tho Training Garrison, Aro Street, were promoted to probationary officership, and appointed to various responsibilities in tho field and social work throughout tiic Dominion. They represent a splendid reinforcement of enthusiastic youth to tho army's growing forces. Preceding the commissioning, a pageant was presented depicting some of the servants of God through tho ages. Patriarch, Law Giver, Prophet, Priest, Apostle, Martyr, Missionary, Preacher, Reformer and modern Salvationist, as a herald announced them, entered slowly and took prearranged places on tho platform. Young women dressed to represent tho various nationalities among whom the army is working also took their places, grouped around a central illuminated Cross.

As a climax to the pageant, the Wellington City Band struck up a stirring march, and the cadets entered with their colours, and marched past the commissioner to their places in the pageant, when tho chorus of General Evangeline Booth's song, "Tho World for God," was sung. A message from General Evangeline Booth was read by Sirs. Adams, and Brigadier Sidney Smith, training principal, gave a review of the sessional activities, and presented the cadets to tho commissioner to receive their commissions. The cadets then made a declaration of faith, and pledged Themselves to the service of God in th« Salvation Army.
