Until the season was well advanced it looked as though BlandfoYd was going to havo a lean time next year, but the successes of Bala Hissar, Midstream and Harina have put a different aspect on things. After the Dewhurst Stakes it was generally anticipated that Bala Hissar would be at the head of the handicap, and he is now the winter favourite for the Derby. He is a half-brother to Theft and closely related to Solario, and is said to be a magnificent type of colt. The general opinion is that the two-year-olds this season are a very high class, and Bala Hissar is not likely tc have things all his own way, as Bahram did last year. Abjer has any amount of staying, blood and descends from Fairy Gold, dam of Fair Play, sire of the great American Man o' War. Another who is likely to trouble him is Fairway's son Daytona, who was first in two out of his only three starts. Mahmoud, the Bossover colt, and Prince Aly are likely to be sprinters only, but colts whose classic prospects are viewed highly are Monument, Midstream and Boswell. The latter only raced late in the season and won his last race in fine style. sansonnet takes pride of pla.ee among the fillies and has fully earned it. A real classic type, she has had three wins and a second in her only four starts. Another beautiful filly is Lord Derby's Tide-way, a daughter of Fairway, whose stock aro improving all the time. One wiio may show great improvement is Trigo's sister Harina, who was somewhat lucky to beat Abjer in the Kempton Park Imperial Produce Stakes. However, she has only started twice, and was decidedly backward. Taking it all round, the prospects for next season's classics seem to be more interesting than for many years past.
