FIFTY YEARS AGO
VISIT OF NOTED ACTOR Considerable interest was aroused in the Dominion half a century ago when the celebrated actor, the later Dion Boucicault, arrived from Australia and commenced a short tour of the country. A telegraphic message from Christchurch appearing in the New Zealand Hkhald of November 7, 1885. stated: — " Mr. Boucicault arrived here to-day from the South. He was met at tho station by the Mayor and escorted to his hotel. In the evening he made his debut at the Theatre Royal before a brilliant house, and, together with his beautiful and talented wife, received an ovation. His brief season promises to be an immense success."
