, THE CORFE TRADITION OLD BOYS MEET IN LONDON [from our own correspondent] By Air' Mail r i LONDON, Octi 19 The fifty-third artnual dinner of the English branch of Christ s College Old Boys' Association was held at Vernon House on October 1. Mr. Hal Williams presided The toast of the evening was proposed by Mr. Melville Jameson, who referred m feeling terms to the death of Mr. C. C. Corfe, the influence of whose personality seemed to permeate the college. „ „ , , The sons of Mr. Corfe s °'d boys ntill felt the repercussion of the atmosphere he created, and benefited by the watchword 'Justice tempered by Mercy 1 ' which ho had left behind him. Mr Jameson said how glad he was that the Rev. E. 0. Crosse was present. He had no doubt that even in the difficult times through which the school was passing when Mr. Crosse became headmaster, ho had noticed something which he at first could not quite understand and which he probably learned later was the Corfe tradition. The toast • was responded to by Mr. P J C. Burns, who said that ho had been'much struck by the place which Christ's College occupied among the Empire public schools. Whon ho spoko of New Zealand,he was /iskod: "That's whero Christ's College is, isn't it?" The solo of the college song was sung by Mr*. W.i Wilson, the accompaniment being played from memory by Mr. Melville Jameson The attendance, for various reasons, was not so large as usual. Those present were: —The Rev. E. C. Crosse, Messrs. J. M. Barrett, B. G. Blunt, P. J. C. Burns, A. H. and C. E. Carrington, C. P. Clarkson, E. B. Cocks, H. D. Cook, J. T. Irving, W. Irving, A. Melville Jameson, Raymond Kirk, E. K. McLean, J. F. Moir, J. D. Maling, R. Mackerell, Paul Pascoe, Basil; 8. Smyth, 0. E.iW. Steward, M. Tancred Stack, D. E. Thomas, J. G. D. Ward, Dr. W. Gordon Weston, G. D. White-Parsons, W. Wilson.
