ARBITRATION COURT
COACH BUILDERS' WAGES The Arbitration Court, presided over by.Mr. Justice Page, yesterday heard evidence and argument in tho Auckland coach and car builders' dispute. The three matters referred to the CouM from the conciliation council were wages, the under-rate workers' clause, and the date of the operation of the award. Mr. B. Martin represented the union and Mr. W. E. Anderson appeared for the employers. At'the conciliation council the employers agreed to a rate of Is lid an hour for journeymen, and subsequently raised their offer to 2s. The union asked for a minimum rate of 2s 3d. After evidence on both sides had been heard, the Court reserved its decision. »
The Court made an order granting a joint application to amend the baket's and pastry cooks' award by inserting a clause to provide for the settlement of disputes.
