COLLECTION OF RATES The satisfactory manner in which rate collections were being made in the Mount Albert borough was commented upon'by members of the Borough Council last night. According to the report of the Legal and Finance Committee collections to October 17 amounted to £40,893, compared with £34,704 at the same date last year. The chairman of the committee, Mr. EI. A. Anderson, added that the collection of arrears of rates. also was being carried out satisfactorily. The council decided to support a resolution received from the Timaru Borough Council requesting that the Mortgngo Corporation and other State lending departments be placed on the same basis as private lenders of money as regards liability lor rates. The council's delegates to the next municipal conference wore instructed to support remits of a similar nature. In submitting plans for the construction of the first section of the sewer main to servo the properties on the New North Road extension and on the western slopes of Mount Albert the resident engineer, Mr. W. E. Begbie, stated that the cost would be £I2OO. The allocation set aside for drainago in the area for the current year was £2913, ,
