SPECIAL LEAVE ALLOWED CONSIDERATION FOR V.C. LONDON, Oct. 23 That there is a human side to the War Office is revealed by an announcement that Lance-Corporal Findlater will rejoin tho Gordon Highlanders at Gibraltar aftor special loave. Thirty-seven years ago, when the Gordons stormed the Dargai Heights in Afghanistan, Piper Findlater, tho lance-corporal's father, finding tho regiment held up by deadly fire, ran ahead, playing tho bagpipes, and when wounded in both ankles scrambled to his knees and rallied the Gordons to a victorious charge by playing "Cock o tho North." For this ho was awarded tho Victoria Cross. Six weeks ago he fell, breaking a leg, while working on his croft, whereupon ho successfully applied for six weeks' leave for his son to enable him to attend tho potato crop.
