DEATH IN CAR ACCIDENT (Received October 22, 5.5 p.m.) CHICAGO, Oct. 21 Mr. Sidney Smith, aged 58, creator of "The Gumps," one of the most widely published newspaper comic strips in the world, was killed in a motor-car accident yesterday.
