Oct. 22 Reports of good rains throughout tho country had a firming effect to-day in the investment market on the Sydney Stock Exchange. Buyers took the initiative, but found offerings of good class industrials restricted. Banking, gas and brewery shares were all inclined to harden. This morning's sales included: —Commonwealth 4 per cent bonds—l93B and 1911, £lO2 3s 9d; 1944, £lO2 8s 9d; 1953, £lOl 2s 6d; 1961. £lO3 7s fid. Hemp.—Manila: The market is quieter and slightly weaker. The trade demand is poor. K grade for OctoberDecember shipment is quoted by sellers at £27. Sisal: Tho market is quiet and somewhat easier. No. 1 grade for October-December and January-March shipments is quoted by sellers at £27. New Zealand: There is a moderate inquiry, but small business has been done. Fair grade, £2l; rejected, £lB 10s. Eggs.—The market is firmer and prices have advanced. English national pack, 16s 6d to 21s; English ordinary pock, 16s to 17s; Danish, 13s to 15s; Australian, lis 6d to 13s 6d..
