OPIUM CHARGES
SEQUEL TO POLICE RAID NINE CHINESE REMANDED A sequel to a raid by detectives ort a house in Xelson Street, City, on Monday afternoon, was the appearance m the Police Court yesterday of eight Chinese, on opium charges. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., was on the Bench, the accused being represented by Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Xorris. Ah Lee, aged 32, was charged with being found in possession of prepared opium, and also with permitting opium smoking on premises of which he was the occupier. The other Chinese were charged with being found in possession of prepared opium, and also with being found without lawful excuse on premises used for the purpose-of smoking opium. They were Wong Sun, aged 36, Wong Wah, aged 40, Chang Wong, aged 31, Ah Wong, aged 50, Ah Hung, aged 39, Ah Shum, aged 36, and Kwok Hing, aged 40. A charge of being found in possession of prepared opium was also brought against Chan Fun, aged 48. All the accused were remanded for a week. Ah Lee and Chan Fun were both allowed bail of £IOO, bail of £5 being granted to each of the other accused.
