CHRISTMAS NUMBER
THE WEEKLY NEWS SOUTHERN PRESS TRIBUTES HIGH STANDARD PRAISED High praise for the Christmas Number of The Weekly News is given by newspapers in all parts of tho Dominion, the comprehensive nature of tho subjects dealt with in tho illustrations, the enterprise which has brought them together, the originality of treatment and the excellence of the technical side of the publication, all meeting with very favourable comment. " The 1935 issue of the Christmas Number of The Weekly News is even liner than its predecessors," states the Wairarapa Daily Times. " In addition to five remarkably fine full-page colour plates, one of which is issued as a supplement to facilitate framing, the production contains a wealth of splendid pictorial and literary matter. There are new aerial views, and novel, unconventional pictures taken with a brilliant sense of r,ho dramatic. Liberal use of the latest two-tone process has also been made in a number of the pictures, which gain a realism seldom obtained in plain black and white."
Every Aspect of Life The Press, Christchurch, says:—"The scenery in both the Noirth and South Islands offers almost unparalleled opportunities to the photographer, and there have been gathered in this publication about 80 views of nearly every aspect of city and country life in New Zealand. The photography is very good, and nothing has been lost in reproduction, the whole issue being an attractive and comprehensive piece of work." The Otago Daily Times says the number "unfolds a rich panorama of New Zealand life," and states that "the scenic beauties of New Zealand, from the far north to the extreme south, receive their tribute in photographic art." . , "In keeping with the very nign standard set in past years, the 1935 Christmas Number of The Weekly News compares more than favourably with any number produced, and is a triumph of the photographic process engraver's and printing arts," says the Wanganui Chronicle. Outstanding Pictures The Poverty Bay Herald lemarks that tho publication "contains outstanding examples of the pictorial work of some of the Dominion's finest camera artists." "Included as a supplement is a magnificent full-page colour photograph of a forest archway at Punakaiki, on tho Grevmouth-Westport road," states the Nelson Mail. "There are also four other colour plates, which, delicately tinted and coloured, are a credit to the artists and printers." Describing the issue as even better than earlier numbers, the Ashburton Guardian says the Christmas Number of The Weekly News has a reputation for quality that extends far beyond New Zealand. "In addition to making a fine Christmas gift or substitute for a Christmas card, the annual should be a fine souvenir to send to friends and relatives in other lands," it is added.
