THE TROTTING TRACK

TRIALS ON THE GRASS NIMBUS FINISHES WELL AUTO MACHINE SHOWS DASH BY ABAYDOS Horses engaged at the Waikato and Auckland trotting meetings worked on tho course proper at Epsom yesterday morning. Tho poles were out 25ft. and the going was excellent. Auto Machine (A. Brown), Nimbus (A. W Broughton) and Wee Machine (W. Willetts) set out as named for a two miles' task, and at tho end of seven furlongs were picked up by Aerial Bell (C. G. Lee). In a good finish Nimbus just shaded Auto Machine in 4.52. The first mile and a-half was run at a 2.30 gait, but Aerial Bell forced the pace over the final half. Auto Machine lost his position crossing tho top and Nimbus trailed the leader into tho straight. Wee Machino made a forward move and Nimbus took charge, stalling off a sharp final dash by Auto Machine. Nimbus ran tho last half in 1.7, finishing strongly. Auto Machine did his last quarter in 335. Wee Machine, who was not far away at the end, paced smoothly. His time was 4.53, the last half in 1.8. He is in splendid condition. For one in her class Aerial Bell did well to run her last mile in 2.23, the last half in 1.9. Kewpie's Triumph's Task Going tho reverse way Kewpie's Triumph (K. Bell) and Haerenga Pai (S. M. August) jumped away for two miles, Glandore (A. McGarry) and Kewpie's Crest (W. Gee) joining in at the end of half-a-mile. Glandore made play for six furlongs, where Haerenga Pai worked to the front, and she was closely followed by Kewpie's Triumph at the mile and a-haif in 3.38. Kewpie's Triumph did best in the final run, stalling off Kewpie's Crest, and recording 4.46, the last mite in 2.20. He paced resolutely, and has improved since racing last month. In going 4.49, Haerenga Pai was responsible for a fine effort. She ran the middle mile and a-quarter in 3.0 and is. making steady progress. Kewpie's Crest ran the mile and a-half in 3.38, the last half in 1.9. Glandore, who was having only his second run in hopples, went well for a mile and was then eased up. June Nordica (S. M. August) went away from the two miles post five seconds behind Mountain Sun (W. Fleming) and Audo Patch (C. G. Lee), but, after boring on the bends, she was pulled up at the end of a round. Mountain Sun began fast, but faulted, and Audo Patch went to the front, leading all the way to register 5.7. He trotted evenly, each mile taking 2.335, and he could have improved on 1.15 for the final half. After his early lapse Mountain Sun trotted solidly. Going away 14s behind Charteris Bay (G. Cole), Kewpie's Guy (K. Bell) got up to win narrowly over a mile and a-quarter in 3.5 3-5. Trotting without mistake Charteris Bay ran the journey at a 2.40 gait, his last half in 1.14 being a promising effort for the ex-pacer. Kewpie's Guy, who has furnished well lately, ran the final half in 1.12 3-5. Worthy Nor's Display Worthy Nor (P. M. Morrison) trotted a mile and a-half in 3.42. She went away nicely, but was not hurried, the first quarter taking 40s. Tho pace was increased in the middle stages and eased again in the last furlong. Tho last half was run in 1.14.

Blandford (A. W. Broughton) worked two miles at a 2.30 gait. The first three halves were run evenly in 1.13 and the last ono in 1.11. Blandford is shaping up well. Autumn Lou (G. H. Stubbs) and Young Rodney (W. Willetts) kept well together throughout two miles in 5.3. Young Rodney lost a little ground at the quarter post through skipping, but came again with a sound finishing effort. Tho last half showed 1.13, and the last mile 2.30. Autumn Lou will fulfil her Waikato engagements. Realty (E. S. Groat) jumped away botwepn the milo and a-quarter and mile posts, and, pacing soundly, ran the milo in 2.23, the last half in 1.8. Lucky Love (J. Garnett) led Great Chum (S. M. August) from the milo and a-half, but in a good finish the latter got up to win by a small margin in 3.46. Great Chum bored a little early, but when the pace was increased on the last lap he paced smoothly and finished well to clock 1.9 for the final half. Lucky Love, who looks a picture, did not pull as much as usual and gave a useful display. Agnes Bingen (E. S. Groat) ran a mile and a-quarter in 3.10. She was inclined to tear away in tho first four furlongs, but was restrained, and ran the last half in 1.13. Silver Watch Wins

With Nelson do Oro (G. H. Phipps) as a companion over a mile and a-half Silver Watch (L. J. Mahoney) had a comfortable win in 3.38 3-5, but his effort was not as pleasing as some of his previous ones. He went sluggishly and during tho first mile, in 2.27, showed a disposition to mix his gait. Along the back ho set a livelier pace and was well clear at the quarter post, but loafed in the run home, taking 1.11 3-5 for the last half. Parrish Belle (C. G. Leo) trotted the last mile and a-quarter of a mile and a-half at a 2.28 rate. She ran tho middle mile in 2.21 and, as sho worked wide out, her effort was good. She will raco among the pacors at Auckland and next month will tacklo the trotters at Addington. Trilindo (G. Paton) made a bad break in tho first half-milo of a mile and a-half, but, settling down, ran the next milo in 2.39. He stepped solidly over the last half in 1.17 2-5. Bingen Sun (G. Webb) trotted a milo and a-half in 3.50, giving his soundest display for some time. He was not hurried early, but in the middlo stages hit out to trot a, milo in 2.28, a good effort for one in his class. Useful work on tho dirt track, which was in good order, was done by Spessiva, Worthy Chief, Luminate, Argolis, Guid Hairst and Pink Lady. On the cinders the Great Northern Trotting Derby candidate, Gold Pointer (W. Willetts), assisted by tho Lady Doris filly (D. 0. Jones), worked a milo and a-quarter at a 2.35 gait, the filly finishing in front to clock 1.11 2-5 for tho last half. TROTTING FIXTURES October 19, 21—Waikuto Trotting Club.
