FANCY COSTUME DANCE

GAY FUNCTION AT OTAHUHU The annual fancy costume dance for children organised by the ladies' committee of the St. Joseph's Parish Women's League, was held in the Convent School hall at Otahuhu 011 Saturday. The grand march provided an impressive spectacle as the gaily-attired children were marshalled under the direction of Mrs. J. Ayers. A number of folk dances and items was enjoyed by the large company of adults. The judges, Mrs. A. G. Grinter, Mrs. J. Kendall and Mrs. C. R. Petrie, awarded prizes for original and fancy costumes as follows: —Under four years: Girls, Fay Nicholson (paint box) and Claire McEvoy (pea-pod); boys, Dennis Taylor (soldier boy) and Keitli Haggio (Robin Redbreast); special, Kathleen Griffiths (spring). Under eight: Girls, Martha Devich (Yugoslav) and Peggy Lovelock (cracker); boys, Bruce Lyons (13oy Blue) and Brian Leydon (professor); special, Eileen ]\loylo (handbag). Under 10: Girls, Elnia Nield (early Victorian) and Audrey Doherty (Land of the Free); boys, Milton Atkins, (huntsman) and Tasinan Baxter (pirate). Under 14: Girls, Marian Sampson (Hawaiian) and Audrey Sampson (luggage); boys, Dennis McGrath (Maori) and Len. McAnulty (benzine); special Coral Ayers (gipsy girl). Best couples: Alice Phillips and Betty Nichols (Darby and Joan). Pat and Jean Allan (Mickey and Minnie). Best poster costume: Kathleen Mahoncy (tea); special, Alice Johnston. The prizes were presented by the president of the committee, Mrs. J. J. Graham, who was-assisted by the following:—Mesdames liaydeii, Turner, E. McAnulty, H. M. Ryan. F. Holloway, J. O'Toole and Wyatt. The floor ceremonies were directed by Messrs. J. E, Gillies, \V. Whitelaw and J. O'Toole. Music was provided by Mrs. Gillies and Miss M. Arlington. The judges and Mrs. Grnhani and assisting ladies were presented with bouquets.
