GOLD-BEARING LEAD

CENTRAL OTAGO DISCOVERY [nv TELEORAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Monday What premises to be a distinctly interesting discovery of a gold-bearing lead has been made in the Blackstone Hill district, near Alexandra, by two miners working under the Unemployment Board's scheme, In the course of sluicing operations they have come upon a quartz drift seam, carrying within it a narrow lead which is yielding coarse, rough gold. Mixed with this are large pieces, some of which are too big to enter the mouth of an aspirin bottle. Although only about six ounces of gold have been recovered from this lead it is known that the seam of quartz drift extends for many miles through the district round Oturehua. The two miners are Messrs. G. Donaldson and J. Inns, and their find is the culmination of two years' wdrk and peri severance against difficulties. They now entertain high hopes that their efforts are about to be rewarded.
