ALLEGED THEFT OF £4OO
STATEMENT MADE IN COURT MAINTENANCE CASE ADJOURNED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday When a maintenance case against Richard Edward Green, donor of the clock towers at Sumner and New Brighton, was resumed in the Magistrate's Court this morning, it was stated that Green's garage, in front of his house in Springfield Road, had been broken into, £4OO in cash being stolen and an attempt made to set fire to his motorcar.
The £4OO involved, it was stated, was a sum which Green had received from the sale of an annuity. When a maintenance claim on behalf of a son in Sydney was before the Court early this month, it was adjourned to allow Green to invest the amount in an annuity for his wife. This morning, when the case came before Mr. F. F. Reid, S.M., and the allegations were placed before him, the case was adjourned until November 18 pending the result of police inquiries. An order was made early this year against Green of £1 a week maintenance for his daughter. At that time Green had two annuities in respect of his own life. He sold one of these for £4OO to provide an annuity for his wife.
