GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE MR. G. WILDISH CHOSEN The central executive of the National Political Organisation has approved the selection of Mr. G. Wildish as National Government candidate for the Grey Lynn seat at the general election. Mr. Wildish, who resides in Auckland, spent 40 years at Gisborne, of which he was Mayor for eight years. He has had a wide experience of local government as a member of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, Gisborno Harbour Board, Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board and Gisborne High School Board. He waß also for a period chairman of the Gisborne Fire Board.
SOCIAL CREDIT SCHEMES ADDRESS BY MR. MASSEY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday A running fire of interjections punctuated an address given by Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P. for Franklin, before a large audience of Raglan electors at Te Kowhai, which is one of the strong centres of the Douglas Social Credit movement. Mr. 0. P. Duncan presided, and Mr. D. Stewart Reid, M.P. for the district, was also on the platform. Mr. Massey, after dealing with the administration of the present Government, answered questions relating to social credit. He said Major Douglas had been unable to produce a cure for New Zealand's financial troubles. Mr. Massey stated that the social credit government of Alberta had found it utterly impossible to keep to the promises made prior to the elections.
Mr. Reid also addressed the meeting. Both speakers were accorded a vote of thanks.
THE PAHIATUA CONTEST INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday In addition to a Labour Party representative Sir Alfred Ransom is to have a second opponent at the general election in the Pahiatua constituency. The new candidate is Mr. Robert Johnston Franklin, sheopfarmer, of Porangahau, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Franklin, of Wanganui, former residents of Dannevirke. Mr. Franklin, who is a young man, will face tho electors as an Independent. He received his education at Wanganui Collegiate School and Massey Agricultural College. The Labour nominee is Mr. R. A. Gowcr.
WANGANUI CONSTITUENCY THE DEMOCRAT ASPIRANT | BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday Mr. H. Cave wilf be the Democrat candidate for New Plymouth. He was formerly employed in the Wanganui Education Board's office and subsequently became a minister of religion. Sinco 1933 ho has been in private business.
