UNLIGHTED CYCLES
COMPLAINT AT PAPAKURA POLICE VIGILANCE SOUGHT "A serious position is arising at Papakura in regard to the number of cyclists who ride about the town at night without lights on their machines," said Mr. D. Weir at last night's meeting of the Papakura Town Board.
Mr. Weir said he considered that the menace had reached the stage when the board should request the police to exercise vigilanco. The offenders were mostly boys and youths, who rode both on roads and footpaths in extremely careless manner.
The chairman, Mr. H. E. McEntee, said that tho nightwatchman was appointed an assistant traffic inspector and his co-operation should also be sought. Riders of unlighted cycles were a menace to pedestrians and motorists and placed themselves in grave danger. The board decided to request tho local police to take action against offendors.
