CATHEDRAL PLAN
MISS HORTON'S BEQUEST ACTION TAKEN BY SYNOD Action in regard to the late Miss M. T. Horton's bequest of the residue of her estate toward tho erection of a cathedral for Auckland was taken by tho Diocesan Synod last night, when an undertaking between the General Trust Board of the Dioceso and the trustees of tho will was ratified, on a motion by Archdeacon W. J. Simkin. The agreement stated the will directed that the trusteos should pay a sum not exceeding £IOOO for the accepted competitive design for the cathedral building, provided that tho cathedral was built on tho site originally selected and now occupied by tho Parnell Tennis Club and the adjoining houses between the courts and St. Stephen's Avenue. For its part, the General Trust Board undertook that unless otherwise agreed by tho trustees or sanctioned by the Supremo Court the cathedral would be erected on the site specified. It also undertook that if any part of the area was not required for the actual building it should be held by the General Trust Board for cathedral purposes nnd should be freed from all encumbrances as soon as possible, and in any eyent not later than tho termination of the existing leases.
