ELLERSLIE TRAINING

KKLLY WORKS SOUNDLY r SOLID MILE BY BAROSCOPE t KILTOWYN'S TEN RJRLONGS p BY ARCHER Sound gallops by .Baroscope, Kelly and Kiltowyn and useful sprints by Imamint, Valspear and Gay Defence were features of the training operations at Ellerslie yesterday. The course proper, where the poles were out 65ft. and the going was easy on the surface, was available for galloping and some of the times recorded were highly creditable under the conditions. On the course proper Racing Lady (Wiggins) reeled off four furlongs nicely in 54 3-ss. This novice has been responsible for some useful sprinting lately and appears to have improved a little since last season. She is booked to compete at Paeroa to-morrow. To Broney (McTavish) and Fleetwind (light boy) covered half a mile in 54 4-ss. They finished together and were striding along solidly at the end. Te Broney is a promising novice and J. Kemp should win with her in the noar future if sho maintains her present progress. Caliente (Clifford) finished two lengths ahead of Sir Abb (Wiggins) at tho conclusion of a working gallop over a round in 2.17 3-5, the last seven furlongs in 1.40 2-5. They were going comfortably all tho way and Red Flame (Bentley), who was under a strong hold,' led them over tho last half-«iile in 575. Long Work by Tybalt Tybalt (McCurdy) and Zane Grey (Stone) worked steadily over a mile and a-half, running tho last round in 2.26 2-5 and the last seven furlongs in 1.50. The nature of Tybalt's latest work suggests that ho is to be tried over longer journeys than ho has yet raced over, and, although he has not been extended when worked over a distance, ho is doing everything required of him in good stylo. Imamint (Dulieu) sprinted half a mile in 53 4-ss, striding out with plenty of freedom. She is in great heart and her rider had a good hold of her at the finish. Kelly (Gilchrist) was finishing resolutely at the end of a round in 2.9 3-5, being just in front of Gay Broney (McTavish), who assisted over the last seven furlongs in 1.36 1-5. Air Lassie (Bentley) and Hope Lass (Parsons) joined in the gallop at the six furlongs, but the former broke down badly in the straight and was pulled up. Hope Las 3 finished slightly behind, running her six furlongs in 1.24 4-5. Kelly went well, even though he was carrying a light boy, and Gay Broney displayed a tendency to loaf. , • Gay Marigold (Walsh) was responsible for seven furlongs in 1.36 1-5. Tidalia (Clifford) accompanying her over the last six in 1.22 4-5, the last three taking 42 4-ss. Gay Marigold and Tidalia are thriving on their work and are both looking very healthy. Gay Defence Goes Well Express (Fearn) and Teddy Boy (Bigham), after running the first three in b3 4-ss, completed six furlongs in 1.22 2-5. Psychologist (Gilchrist) went solidly over six furlongs in 1.21. Royal Appellant (Stanway) covered the 6ame distance comfortably in 1.25 3-5. Bayora (Buchanan) and Solas (Dick) ran their first two in 26 4-5s and finished together over five furlongs in j 1.9 3-5. Pasha and .Etcetera wore separately allotted useful work over the same distance, neither being at top at any stage. Gay Defence (Wiggins) jumped away just behind Tray Bit (Cliffo'rd), and. after heading him early, completed six furlongs in 1.21 l-o, the first two in 25 4-ss, Tray Bit taking 1.22 1-5. Gay Defence went nicely, but Tray Bit was sore and did not hit out with any freedom until he was well warmed up. Persian Lady (Fearn) placed five furlongs behind in 1.9 1-5, the first two in 26 4-ss. Chief Emerald (Dulieu), Supreme Rulor (Turvey) and Ruling King (Stanway) were on terms at the end of a working gallop over six furlongs in 1.26. Valspear (Parsons), who was kept up to his work near the end, sprinted four furlongs in 535, the best of the morning over the distance. It is not intended to race him at Paeroa and he may have his next start at Te Rapa in November. Sound Mile and a Quarter Kiltowyn (Goldfinch),' after commencing slowly, went a mile and a-quarter in 2.22 2-5, the last round in 2.11, the last seven furlongs in 1. 353-5 and the last half-mile in 54 3-ss. It was a sound effort and Kiltowyn finished solidly. ' Baroscope (Wiggins) galloped a mile in ,1.47 1-5, Lady Diana (Manson) assisting him over the last six furlongs in 1.21. They finished together, and, although Baroscope rvas kept up to his work at the end, he ran on solidly. The Weathervane gelding has been fairly well and it should not be for lack of condition if he fails to race prominently at Paeroa. Professional (McTavish) was just in front of Armacourt (Bentley) and Gemland (Parsons) over four furlongs from a barrier start at the mile post in 52 2-ss. Queen Brierly (Dulieu) and Maori Song (Murray) jumped out of the barrier with them, but were eased up early. Primak (Cammick) jumped away from tho barrier at the mile post and ran four furlongs in 54 4-Ss. He began better than an unnamed gelding by Spear Dance—Mountain Ore. although the lntter went out faster than when tried with the previous lot. Injury to Puccini On the No. 3 gras9 King Mestor (Murray) and Vera Acre (Sargent) went evenly over six furlongs in 1.23. the first three in 41 2-ss. Green Patch worked usefully over a round and the hunter Alantus performed a similar task. Lord Val (Burgess) and Catoma (Baker) gave a good display over four hurdles. They went fairly fast and were together throughout, although Lord Val gained a slight advantage at the last fence. Capella Abbey (Stanway) and Puccini (Dunn) were sent over a round of tho steeplechase fences. Capella Abbey jumped cleanly, and Puccini, although strange and inclined to bo careful, acquitted himself creditably. Pucoini over-reached and cut his near foreleg, but the wound did not appear to bo very deep and may not affect him to any extent. * Waikatoa (Sharkey) was schooled over hurdles and fenced cleanly.
