ROYAL SHOW SOCIETY
ORGANISATION OF DISTRICTS CONFERENCE AT WHANGAREI [bt telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAEEI, Thursday A conference of North Auckland agricultural and pastoral-societies was held to-day, when Dr. G. Walker and Messrs. W. R. O'Donnell and C. P. Butler, representing the northern districts council of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, and Mr. J. Wylie, vicepresident of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Society, were present. Dr. Walker presided over an attendance of delegates from the Whangarei, Towai, Kaikohe, Upper Wairoa and North Kai-, para societies. Dr. Walker said now that the North Island Conference was defunct, the Royal Society had taken over the control of agricultural societies for the Dominion and the object of the conference was to ask the North Auckland societies to affiliate. _ .-. « Mr. O'Donnell explained the objects of the Royal Society and the progress of the agricultural show movement. He said the Royal Society would interest itself in all matters concerning farmers, the controlling of shows, and the unifying of their interests. Mr. E. G. Davidson (Upper Wairoa) said he thought there would be trouble in getting the North Auckland societies - to join. The Whangarei Society had broken away from the North Auckland group. Mr. C. P. Butler (Whangarei) said ho admitted his society had broken up the group, but he could assure delegates that it had learnt its lesson and realised that it could not ride roughshod over the smaller societies. Mr. O'Donnell said the group system was not dead, but was incorporated in the constitution of the Royal Society. Mr. E. S. Ralls (Towai) moved that it should be a recommendation that a conference of all North Auckland affiliated societies bo held in North Auckland twice a year. The motion was carried and the conference adjourned, to enable members to report to their societies.
