THOMPSON'S TRACK ROUTE
CONFERENCE AT TE AROHA MAIN HIGHWAY WANTED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AROHA, Thursday A conference of local and other bodies was held here this morning to further the project of transforming Thompson's Track, between Te Aroha and Katikati, into a motor highway. Mr. W. C. Kennedy, chairman of the Piako County Council, presided over a large gathering. The alternative routes, namely, Thompson's Track and- the old Te Aroha Track, were discussed, and it was unanimously decided that Thompson's Track being the better route, the activities of those present should be confined to furthering this route. The conference decided to press for the proposed road being declared a main highway, in which case maintenance charges would be subject to a substantial annual subsidy.
