[by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHAKATANE, Thursday The annual general meeting of the Bay of Plenty Historical Society was hold yesterday, when, the following officers were elected:—-President, Father Van Beek; vice-presidents, Messrs. VV. M. Clark, B. Slnden and It. Dickinson; secretary, Dr. J. C. Wadmore. An interesting article on the origin of the three fingers so common in tho figures of Maori carvings was read and information on the subject received from tho well-known Maori scholar, Mr. Hare Hongi, of Wellington, created discussion. Tenders* were received for the construction of the road to the Redoubt Reserve behind the town, and it was resolved that the finalising of tenders should be done by Mr. H. G. Rand and the secretary. It is the society's intention to make a trip to Waihou Bay, Cape Runaway, on Labour Day week-end,
