ROADS IN COOK COUNTY
RECONSTRUCTION WORK EARLY START PLANNED [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] GISBORNE, Sunday An early start is being planned with the coming season's road reconstruction in the Gisborne district, and tenders for the first of the big jobs in the Cook County are being invited. These jobs will bo among the main ones in the 1935-36 programme, which includes several miles of bitumen sealing. One of tho most important works will bo the reconstruction of the second two miles on the Gentle Annie hill section. Last season tv?o miles from tho bottom of the hill for approximately half the distance up'was reconstructed, and the bottom course of inetal laid down. It is proposed to put on the top course and bitumen-seal this section, while the earthwork and the application of the bottom course metalling proceeds on the second two miles. A further two miles of reconstruction on the Manutuke-Reay Bridge section of Te Arai Road is also planned. This will be an extension of the 2J miles completed last season. The new job will bring the reconstruction within two miles of Reay Bridge. Last year's metalling will be bituminised this summer.
A further 1J miles of reconstruction and metalling will be attempted on the Patutahi-Rere road, and it is hoped also to bituminise this before the close of the summer. Other metalling jobs of smaller extent are planned on tho same road.
