OPERA STAR'S LOSS
FATHER DIES IN THEATRE SINGER'S TRIUMPH MARRED (Received September 27. 8.35 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 27 Just before Miss Eva Turner, an English prima donna, went on the stage to sing the tragic role of Agatha in the German opera "Dor Freischtitz," at Covent Garden Theatre, her father, aged 77, who was sitting in the stalls, collapsed and died. It was decided not to tell Miss Turner, who, unaware 'of her tragic loss, went on and scored one of the biggest triumphs of her career. In the last act Agatha.waits for her bridal bouquet but finds that the box contains a wreath. "It is an omen," exclaims Agatha. This proved strangely true for Miss Turner. As the curtain was rung her brother, who had been informed of the tragedy by telephone, approached her and broke the news of their father's death.
