OVERCROWDED HALLS
DANGER TO DANCERS FIRE BOARD CONCERNED [fkom our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Friday A statement that overcrowding was common to most of the dance halls in Hamilton was made by Dr. F. D. Pinfold, chairman of the Hamilton Fire Board, at a meeting of the board yesterday. Dr. Pinfold added that at one ball held in Hamilton recently the floor was greatly overcrowded, and that a tragedy would have resulted had a fire or an earthquake occurred. The menace of fire was always present owing to the amount of flimsy material in use and the practice of smoking by dancers. The superintendent, Mr. A. Craig, said he and a fireman always attended children's dances, while the fire escapes were examined periodically. He undertook to watch for cases of overcrowding.
