IMPROVED MARKET GILT-EDGED STOCKS (Received September 27. 7.45 p.m.) SYDNEY. Sept. 27 On the Sydney Stock Exchange today the investment market moved further toward recovery. Broken Hill silver and lead concerns hardened, and gilt-edged stocks improved three to eight points. The turnover in classified company shares was not heavy. This morning's sales included: —Commonwealth bonds, 3j{ per cent, 1949, £l)6 17s 6d; 4 per cent, 1938, £lOl 17s Gd. LONDON WOOL SALES

MERINOS CLEARED READILY CROSSBREDS IRREGULAR LONDON. Sept. 20 At the London wool sales to-day 10,514 bales were offered, including 6057 Nciv Zealand. About 8625 bales of Australian and New Zealand were sold. Merinos were cleared readily at full rates. Crossbreds wore rather irregular, buyers being reluctant to follow the higher limits. New Zealand sales included: Greasy Merino "Brancopeth," top price, 12id; average, lOd; scoured, "Glen Tanner," 24(1 and 213 d. BRADFORD TOPS MARKET'S STEADIER TONE • LONDON. j Reference to the improvement in the ' demand for office accommodation was I made at the annual meeting yesterday jof the Southern Cross Investment and ! Rural Development Society. Air. \V. I Andrew, chairman of directors, said | that if this was maintained the loss on buildings shown m the current accounts would not recur. .The chairman also referred to the help the society was giving in providing small holdings. The retiring directors, Professor H. W. Segar and Mr. S. T. Rossiter, were re-elected.

'26 At the London rabbitskin sales 419 bales of Australian and 139 New Zealand were offered and 286 and 126 respectively were sold, 'There was good demand for soft pelted, which advanced 20 to 25 per cent compared with August. The few bucks available were 10 to 15 per cent up. all hatters' sorts 30 to 35 per cent and racks 40 per cent, AMALGAMATED WIRELESS NO CHANGE IN DIVIDEND Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia). Limited, Sydney, has declared a final dividend of 6 per cent, making 10 per cent, unchanged, for the year ended June 30. Payment will be made on October 14.
