PREPARING FOR 193S British motor manufacturers expect a record year in 1933. Programmes which have been completed by some of the big firms allow for double the number of cars manufactured last year. Nearly every factory has sold all its 1935 models and tlie " 1936 rush " has begun. In the six months ending in May of this year 217,532 cars wero built in Great Britain as compared with 256,866 built in tho 12 months ending
September 30, 1931. Estimated figures for the first half of this year show that more cars liavo been built in this country than ever before. " Export figures are up as well as the home figures," one manufacturer said. " The up-grade for British cars has only just started and the industry is in for a long period of ' set fair Thousands of pounds worth of orders for next year's cars liavo already reached several firms, and in one factory work is going on at high pressure, during what is usually the slack period, to cope with orders already received. " Ninctoen thirty-six will bo a bumper year for tho car trade," another manufacturer said. " Prosperity is certainly coming back."
