CHARGES OF THEFT

ENTERTAINER IN COURT COMMITTED FOR TRIAL The hearing of a series of charges, including six of breaking and entering various premises, and stealing goods valued at £379 5s 6d, against Charles Richard George Ross (Mr. Noble), aged ,35, an entertainer, was continued before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. It "was also alleged that accused had in his possession, without lawful excuse, implements of housebreaking, a jemmy, three skeleton keys and a quantity ox gelignite and detonator!:, thereby being deemed a rogue and vagabond. Lengthy evidence concerning the charges, numbering 13, was heard on Thursday, when accused was remanded for sentence on a summary charge of stealing a driver's licence. Evidence was given yesterday by Detective Allsopp that in company with Detective Brown he saw accused in a private garage at Charlton Avenue, Mount Eden, with another man. Accused said that various articles in tho garage, including gelignite and detonators, belonged to another man. Accused admitted that he had been living in Sr,. Benedict's Street, Newton, under the name of S. Pullman, and said! that some of tho goods the police were looking for were being sold somewhere in the North Island by a man ho had met three weeks previously. Accused pleaded not guilty to tho charges, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Sentenco on the summary charge heard on Thursday was postponed.
