SHOW FINANCES

AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY LOSS ON YEAR'S WORKING IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUNDS After allowing for depreciation amounting to £254, the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association experienced a loss of £B3 on its activities during the past year, according to the balance-sheet presented at the annual meeting yesterday. The loss on the .annual show held last February amounted to £6Bl. The principal items in the receipts were gate takings £487, entry fees £392, donations„£l33, and revenuo from privileges and space £97, the main items of expenditure being prize-money £845, wages £239, advertising £193, luncheons £7l, and printing and stationery £62. This loss was offset by a profit of £SOG in the general revenuo account. The loss in the showground account amounted to £2OB. Effect of Wet Weather In moving the adoption of tho report, the president, Mr. S. Austin Carr, congratulated the association upon the success of its activities during the year, which had been a better one financially than many in the past. A sum of £IOOO had been received as the association's share of the wjnter show profits, and a surplus would have been shown on the year's working had it nob been fov tho amount allowed for depreciation. The president said he was sure the association would not have made a loss on tho annual show had tho weather been more favourable. The stock exhibited was a credit to New Zealand and to tho Auckland district. He thanked the exhibitors and the stock attendants for tho assistance they had civen. - The New Grounds As far as the new show grounds were concerned, said Mr. Carr, the contractor' had been delayed considerably by the weather, but he was now making excellent progress with tho work. Tho- new ring, however, would not be sown and ready for the next show, but it would bo available for use by sporting bodies early in 1936. It was explained that, although the association had been fortunate a fow years ago in obtaining about £6OOO for improvement purposes from an art union, the committee thought it prudent to set aside £2405 to be devoted to tho taking out of an endowment policy, which would return £IO,OOO at the expiry of the lease of-the grounds. "This, I am sure," added the president. "you will approve of, as it will save us providing an annual sinking fund, or annual depreciation amount, which it is not always easy to do. Later I am going to ask members to confirm this action by the council." The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Election ol Officers The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. S. Austin Carr; vicepresidents, Mr. S. I. Crookes and Mr. James Wvlie; councillors, Messrs. C. G. Brookes, H. Frost, S. Hamlin, C. I). Hensen, H. S. W. King, W. C. Knight, W. O. Lane, W. W. Massey, B.
