1 NEW PLYMOUTH SEAT LABOUR CHOOSES CLERGYMAN [BY TELECRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday The Rev. F. L. Frost, vicar of Taradale, Hj wke's Bay, is to be the Labour Party candidate for the New Plymouth seat. He was unanimously selected by a party meeting to-night, on the recommendation of the national executive of the party. Mr. Frost is an ex-soldier. He is a member of the Hawke's Bay Education Board. DEMOCRAT POLICY i MR. HI SLOP'S ADDRESS Arrangements have been made for the meeting in the Town Hall on Tuesday night, when Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, leader of the Democrat Party, will open the Dominion campaign of the party. The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, will preside. Full details of the Democrat policy will be given. BAY OF PLENTY SEAT MAYOR AS DEMOCRAT [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] OPOTIKI, Friday After having toured the Bay of Plenty and consulted supporters in various districts, Mr. H. L. Harker, Mayor of Wairoa, has found sufficient encouragement for him to announce definitely that he will be a candidate for the Bay of Plenty seat in the interests of the Democrat Party. WAITOMO CONTEST INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE [from our own correspondent] OTOROHANGA, Friday Considerable organisation work has been accomplished on behalf of Mr. J. H. Penniket, Independent Country Party candidate for the Waitomo seat, and large numbers of local committees have be;n formed. Speaking at Otorohanga last night the candidate said, if elected, he would vote to remove the present Government from office, and what party he would then support would depend on the circumstances. Tho candidate said there were two principal schools of thought concerning the economic problem. One favoured monetary reform to stabilise price levels above those of the immediate past, and the other concerned reduced costu. He thought the two ideas were complementary in a primary producing country such as New Zealand. The monetary system should be reformed to produce the first, and the tariffs, especially on British goods, should bo drastically reduced for the purposes of the second.

WAIKATO CONSTITUENCY MR. ZIMAN OPENS CAMPAIGN [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Friday The campaign of Mr. S. N. Ziman, Country Party candidate for the Waikato seat, was opened yesterday at. Awaiti and Patetonga, where meetings were addressed. Mr. Ziman stressed tho importance of candidates and members of Parliament being free from making party pledges of all kinds. He spoke in favour of monetary reform and of freer trade with Great Britain, with respect to the necessities of life. Mr. Ziman also dismissed sympathetically tho Labour Party's schemes for the payment of guaranteed prices for primary products and he suggested methods by which ho considered the ideas could be made practicable. , The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks at each meeting.
