THE LEAGUE CODE

FIRST TEST MATCH • ; : --- - - •• ■) CARLAW PARK TO-MORROW AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND f ■ 1 Considerable interest is being taken in the first-Rugby League football test match between Australia and New Zealand, whiph will be played at Carlaw Park to-morrow afternoon. It is 16 years sinoo the teams met. and in the last series of matches Australia won two of three games played. At Christchurch, in August, 1919. New Zealand defeated Australia by 23 points to 10. Australia was successful at Auckland and Wellington. The present touring team has proved a brilliant combination, and its attractive football has greatly impressed the crowds. Included in the visitors' team are several famous players in Rugby League, and all round the side compares favourably with the best yet sent from Australia. The Australian team will return from Wellington by the early train this morning, when the personnel of .the team for the match to-morrow will be announced. It is likely to be the same thirteen as that which defeated Auckland last Saturday. The brilliant play of Norman, Thicknesse, and D. Brown js expected to prove a great draw. The Visiting forwards will meet strong opposition from the New Zealand, .vanguard, which includes three West Coast players. TJie Australian forwards, however, will lack nothing in experience, as l'rigg, Curran, Stehr and Pearco have frequently played against England in test matches.

Caldcr, who will play front row for New Zealand, in spite of a long career, is still one of the best forwards in the code, and his knowledge of scrum play should'assist Hutt in getting the ball. Possession will mean a great deal in the result to-morrow. , , ' •
