MOTHER'S CRIMES
THEFTS FROM SHOPS CHILDREN TRAINED TO STEAL Allegations that a woman took her two children on shoplifting expeditions were made at Plymouth, England, recently, when Mrs. Florence Radcliffe, of Stoke, Plymouth, admitted two charges of stealing articles, worth 14s, from two different shops. She was fined £lO.
Superintendent W. T. Hutchings said the woman went into ono shop, accompanied by her 10-year-old son and 7-year-old* daughter. The store detective saw the boy take a balloon from a counter and put it in a bag he was carrying. They went to another counter, where the boy took an electric battery. At the grocery counter the mother picked up a bottle of coffee, which she placed on the end of the counter. The boy picked it up and put it in his bag. The daughter watched what was going on.
The chairman said to defendant: "Your husband is in a good position and there is no need to steal. You are training your children to become thieves and are bringing them up as criminals."
