"ROBERTA" SEASON
There is likely to be a good demand for seats when the box plans are opened this morning for the six evening performances of the musical comedy "Roberta," in which Madge Klliott, Cyril Ritchard and the J. C. Williamson, Limited, company will make their reappearance at His Majesty's Theatre on Wednesday night next. In seeking a theme for "Roberta,-" its author, Otto Harbach, has evidently kept in mind the paramount claim of the eye. The plot is taken from a novel, "Gowns by Roberta," by Alice Millar. In "Roberta" there are, it is said, a succession of ornate showrooms, bars, cabarets, and, above all, mannequin parades. It is said that both Madge Elliott and Cyril Ritchard have never been seen to greater advantage, and. their dances are a feature of the production. Playgoers will be glad to welcome back to New Zealand Leo Franklin, Frank Leighton, Marie Lo Varre and Miss Ethel Morrison, Miss Diane Du Cane, a young London musical comedy artist who was recently engaged by J. C. Williamson's English representative, will make her first appearance in the important role of Sophie Teale, in which she scored an outstanding success in Australia. Only six evening performances and a matinee can bo given of "Roberta," and it will be followed by "High Jinks" and "Our Miss Gibbs."
