JEWISH NEW YEAR
The Jewish Now Year, which will extend over to-morrow and Sunday, begins at sunset this evening, the termination being at sunset on Sunday. According to the Jewish calendar, the year 5G06 will have begun, and the period will be observed by tlio Jewish community as a close holiday, with services in tiio Synagogue. The Day of Atonement will commence at sunset on October 6, ending the following evening. That occasion will also be observed as a close holiday, th" ''iv being the most sacred in the Jewish calendar. A feature of the services at New Year, which falls on the first day of the Hebrew month of Tishri, is the blowing of the Shofar, or trumpet.
