CHURCH ANNIVERSARY
ST. DAVID'S CELEBRATIONS
RECITAL OF SACRED MUSIC The celebrations of the 70th anniversary of St. David's Presbyterian Church, which will continue until Sunday week, were opened last night with il recital of classical sacred music by the church choir. Under the leadership of the conductor, Mr. Lcn Barnes, the choir gave successful and effective renderings of such pieces as "Creation's Hymn" (Beethoven), "Call to Remembrauce" (No'vello), "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" (Bach), "Blessed is He that Cometh" (Gounod), "The Wilderness" (Samuel S. Wesley), "Hymn of the Cherubim" (Tschaikowsky), and "0 Gladsome Night" (Sullivan). The accompanist, Mr. E. S. Craston, also contributed two organ solos, Schubert's "Serenade" and "A Sunset Reverie," and "Pure Ray of Light" was pleasingly given by a trio. The recital was brought to a climax by an impressive rendering of "The Heavens are Telling" (Haydn). The Rev. W. B. Black, who presided, in expressing appreciation of the choir's work, referred to its outstanding leadership and the wonderful way in which members had responded to attain such a high standard of efficiency. A social reunion of past and present members of the choir was held afterwards in the church hall. j
