TOURNAMENT AT WHAKATANE [BY TKLEGEAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHAKATANE. Wednesday A tournament to mark the final of tho basketball season was held yesterday by the Whakatane School Sports' Association for a trophy given by the Herbert Smith Trust. In tho first round Paroa Native School de ; foated Taneatua and Whakata.io defeated Thornton. The final between Paroa and Wliakatane resulted in an excellent exhibition of basketball. Paroa proving the winners. The cup was presented by Mr. C. S. Morrison, on behalf of the association, to tho captain of the Paroa team: This is the fifth year in succession that Paroa has won tho contest, and they are the first to win tho new cup in its first year for competition. The Wilson Cup, which had been competed for for 11 years, was won outright by Paroa last Beason.
