ILLEGAL FISHING
ENFORCING REGULATIONS [BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Wednesday The necessity for enforcing regulations against illegal fishing in the Hauraki Gulf was referred to in the House of Representatives to-day by the Minister of Marine, Hon J. G. Cobbe, in reply to a question by Mr. W. P. Endean (Government —Parnell). Mr. Endean had asked whether action would be taken to prevent illegal fishing by increasing the staff of officials or their efficiency and by providing far the confiscation of a vessel and its gear on a conviction.
The Minister replied that the question raised was under consideration. The confiscation of boats and gear was a penalty in addition to that imposed bv the Court and the circumstances connected with each case were carefully considered before confiscation was ordered.
